While growing up in the 21st Century many people are becoming more dependent on technology and we view it as the norm, however as a society we have not noticed the vicious cycle we are sending ourselves into. We have become so dependent on technology that we are hindering our ability to communicate and learn. Technology is “becoming our map and our clock, our printing press and our typewriter, our calculator and our telephone, and our radio and TV,” it is taking over every aspect of our lives (Carr 341). With technology becoming such a problem in society this essay will discuss how technological advancements have affected society in negative ways and how it has held us back rather than allowing us to grow and think for ourselves.
Technology does have its pros of creating new ways to meet people all around the world and allows us to communicate faster however it has hurt us more in our daily lives. We spend so much time invested in our technology that we lose 30 minutes of face-to-face interaction for every hour we waste on our computers …show more content…

We are no longer able to make deep connections with people we communicate with or within our education. Instead, we have become so invested in technology that nothing matters to us, our education or communication skills, or even the fact that we are tearing down ourselves and the people around us in the process. We are losing our own sense of individuality because we have become so dependent on the opinions and statement of others rather than creating our own culture. We are also losing many new, exciting opportunities that could be right in front of because we are so caught up in artificial intelligence and artificial intimacy that new technology has created to be self-invested rather than other people
