Technology is used around the world everyday, it is being used to type this essay and possibly to read it. With technology being such a necessity to humans lives the debate weather it is damaging or improving those lives is prominent. As a member of generation Z the reflection on my experience of technology impairing us to be better will be presented.
As I hit each key on this laptop thousands of other students, employees, and citizens of this world are too. This thought is directly connected to Tiffany Shlain’s idea that technology is linking humanity together. Although technology is linking humanity together in the big picture, it isn't in a small setting. The ability to sit in a room with others and not pick up a device is being lost.

In this talk Turkle argues “devices are changing who we are.” My original plan was to follow through with using little to none of these devices for 48 hours. That changed when 48 hours wasn't enough observation to really understand what technology is doing to the Colorado State University campus, and the risk of adding another day was taken. On the first day I described to my roommate having no technology “feels like walking around naked.” Since the third grade I have had the responsibility of caring a cell phone. To do so I needed another full 24 hours of no devices. Understanding this essay was due May 4th and was only supposed to be a one page reflection I decided to take a risk. Being the week before finals most classes have major projects due and with no distractions I wanted to see just hoe much more time I had to get these done. I began with a 7 paged argumentative paper using only paper and pencil that shockingly was drafted, edited , and finalized all before noon. Next I sketched 30 items, completed and colored 10 concept squares, and purchased the poster foam board I needed all by 5pm. This left time to grab some pasta from the dining center and read an entire history novel. Looking at the hands of the clock it was only 11pm, without the distraction of my devices I was able to get a shower and go to bed before 3am.
