The differences between a Continental Army leader and a British Army leader go farther than just what side they’re on. They’re born in different places, and they take different paths to get where they end up. They’re not completely different from each other, however, having some consistencies. Nathanael Greene and Thomas Gage were born under different circumstances and had dissimilar experiences, but had some similarities too. Nathanael Greene and Thomas Gage were on different paths from the beginning.
Thomas Fitzsimons was born In 1741, in Ireland (exact date and place unknown) and died August 26th, 1811 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fitzsimons and his family traveled from Ireland to Philadelphia, in the mid 1750’s. In 1763 Thomas went into the trading business, with his new brother in law, George Meade. When Parliament reacted to the 1773 Boston Tea Party with punitive measures, which the Americans called the Coercive Acts, Fitzsimons felt that if British warships could close the port of Boston, no city in America was truly safe. These concerns forced Thomas into the patriotic cause and politics.
Edward William Bloor was born on October 12, 1950 in Trenton, New Jersey (Breed). His parents were Edward William and Mary Bloor (Breed). As a child, Bloor would write plays and stories as he had been intrigued by writing at a young age (“Edward Bloor Biography”). In his childhood, he played on the Ideal Terminal soccer team, but was never very good (Bloor 308). Then, he played on his amazing high school soccer team and in college, on a really bad team (Breed).

Wolfe’s father, William Oliver Wolfe, whom during his travels, felt the addition of an “e” to his last name was necessary. He adopted the “e” and since descendants have kept his alteration. Mr. Wolfe married twice before marrying the mother of his eight children. Julia Elizabeth Westall was nine years William Oliver Wolfe’s junior and birthed Thomas Clayton Wolfe at the age of 40.
Mildred D. Taylor was born on September 13, 1943. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Her entire family has lived in the state of Mississippi ever since the beginning of slavery. A few weeks after her birth, her father wanted more freedom and chose to move to Toledo, Ohio. She lived there for 22 years.
