Imagine a young child, they just moved to a new country, and they are judged by their financial status and what they look like. Segregation and minorities are something that is all around the world and can anguish many people at an early age. Martin Luther King Jr. was a forthright, genial, and resolute man that spent his whole life trying to stop segregation and minorities. Although he did, they still exist today, and they are getting worse every day. In today’s society, a rich white boy would probably be treated better an poor African American. MLK has already reduced and even stopped segregation in America and other places in the world. Segregation can range from not being treated fairly all the way up to not having the same opportunities. In the article “Famous Speeches: Martin Luther King” it states,’” I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”’ This quote articulates that MLK can help reduce segregation because that was his dream. Many kids may be made fun of or even harassed depending on where they come from or their religion. There are many religions around the world and they are all different in some way. Sometimes it is because of their clothes or just how they look. For example, many men who are sikhs where turbans on their head. This covers all of their hair. A young boy might where one and be told that he looks ugly or he is told he has a defect on his head. This is rude and he might be abashed after that. This can also affect the child’s mental health.
