Mesopotamia & Egypt
Mesopotamia means land between rivers , it is located between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers. Egypt was located in Africa along the Nile Rivers. Mesopotamia and Egypt were both civilizations that began after the Neolithic period , they sprung up around 3000 B.C. However, despite being born during the same era, Mesopotamia and Egypt have differences just as much as they have similarities, politically, socially , and religiously.
The major difference in politics between these two civilizations are the way the government is set up . Mesopotamia set up city-states, individual areas in one civilization, that segregated the community . Each city-state was led by an army general and had their own government. On the other hand Egypt was more unified than Mesopotamia, they had a strong central government. The central government provided the people protection in return they gave him taxes., which were rations of what they produced. Both settlements main government were led by a king and priests. The priests guided the king or pharaohs decisions religiously.

Kings and nobles led the civilizations and were in charge of protection. Merchants, artisans, and farmers were middle class and they were paid for their labor, most of them ran their own shops. Slaves were the lowest class that worked for no pay . However , women were treated differently in each community. Mesopotamia did not see women as anything more than property and child bearers. Women had little rights and could not be independent. In Egypt, women were praised for the gift to produce life and seen as goddesses. They were equal to men and could own their own property, women were praised rather than
