Ancient Egypt Vs. Mesopotamia Can you imagine what it would be like to live in ancient Egypt? How about Mesopotamia? There were some similarities, but they were very different as a people. Many of their differences can be found geographically, and their similarities are mainly in cultural trade. The Egyptians and Mesopotamians had many similarities and differences in their written languages, religions, and accomplishments. For example, Egyptians had a very unique form of writing. They developed a written language called hieroglyphics, which was to be read left to right. The letters on top would also be read before those below. Hieroglyphics were mostly used by priests to write down religious records. However, scribes used a different kind of writing called a demotic, which was for daily writing and recordings such as journals. Similarly, the Mesopotamians also had a written language. However, it was a different form of writing called cuneiform, which had much different symbols that were harder to tell apart than Egyptian writing. …show more content…

They were Polytheistic, meaning that they believed in more than one god, such as Heka (The God of Magic) and Amon-Re (the Sun God). The pharaoh, or king, was also considered a god. The gods were believed to be happy, and their afterlife was seen as a so called “happy field of food”, which was looked forward to and prepared for as early as possible. This was due to the fact that the Nile River flooded regularly and was not very destructive. They were prepared for their afterlife in a long process called mummification. Similarly, the Mesopotamians were polytheistic. However, their afterlife was seen as a dark place, that wasn’t looked forward to. This was because the Euphrates River flooded irregularly and left a lot of damage.
