Motivation based on personal, academic and professional experience, and the pursuit of a better country

Economic growth is a common word among professionals, politicians, and businessmen whom generally talk about it in a numerical manner. However, behind the numbers and statistics there are people. My country, El Salvador, has experienced economic growth, but the desired development is still a pending task. This reality leads me to increase the interest in studying the development, as well as its counterpart the underdevelopment, through the Master’s in International and Development Economics, and explain through my personal, academic and professional experience why I feel able to meet all the challenges of this program, and therefore provide better contributions to my country.

In fact, I started working as a government employee in the measurement of the GDP at the Central Reserve Bank (CRB) in 2012. During this time I noticed how the production grew, but the standard living of the Salvadorans was virtually unchanged, which caught my attention. Since 2015, I have been working at the Department of Economic and Financial Research of the (CRBES), which is an advisory department of the Presidency of the CRBES. In this department, I have delved in the analysis of the Salvadoran economy due to one of the main activities that I am involved is to elaborate reports of the economic performance of El Salvador. My current work duties have reinforced a personal inquiry, why if my country has applied the economic receipts of the Washington Consensus and the IMF we have not reached
