Hermanos Unidos Personal Statement

Being a member of Hermanos Unidos throughout my undergraduate career I’ve attended numerous of HU related events, but no other event has impacted me as the Annual National Conference. I’ve attended HU National Conference in four occasions and each those occasions I’ve had a unique and incredible experience. The experience and the knowledge I’ve gain from attending conference has influence my present and future actions. The history of HU was learned after attending conference. Having the privilege of learning why Hermanos Unidos was established in Berkeley and how the idea of El Nuevo Hombre began to spread throughout California universities gave me a better perspective on what was trying to be accomplished. Witnessing 300+ Latino male college students on the same path with similar goals made me understand that not a single person was alone on the path of higher education. After getting to know other hermanos I learned a numerous of them had similar background story with similar life issues I have encountered in my life. Such as not knowing what exactly were my options post graduate career and similar issues within my family. Getting the chance of talking with those specific hermanos and learn what they did to overcome those issues was a great opportunity. Even though I only knew some of the hermanos for a couple of hours and having them share their own experience truly defined Hermandad for me; which is when one of our own hermanos is need of any kind of help, we do anything we can to make sure we get them headed on the right direction. After learning about the History of HU and learning/experiencing the Hermandad from hermanos all over California; reassured me on why I decided to join this organization in the first
