The Battle of Fort Wagner of 1863 The Civil War was triggered by the disagreement between the Southerners and the Northerners over the rights and roles of slaves. The majority of the Southerners believed slaves should have been used for the provision of free labor, while the majority of the Northerners believed that slavery was inhuman and immoral. The Confederate States of America was a Southern country formed by the Southern states’ leaders to break off from the United States. The president of the Confederacy was Jefferson Davis, former senator of Mississippi, while the president of the United States was Abraham Lincoln.
Abraham Lincoln would lead the Republican Party even though he did not win the south over in the election. He promised that he would save the Union no matter what the cost. This disconnect in policy would later lay the basis for the Civil War, which started in 1861. He never envisioned a proclamation or ending slavery but he was ultimately committed to saving the Union from the succeeding south. Lincoln gave into the antislavery Republicans toward the end of the war and finally decided to make slavery the true basis of the war.
As a note at this point Lee was already well respected and accomplished, while was still young and just getting started. Setting the stage The southern slave holding states did not support Lincoln as he opposed the spread of slavery. These southern states said if Lincoln won the 1860 election that they would succeed from the united states forming a new confederate government. Before Lincoln could take office in March of 1861 the confederate government was established.
Breckinridge. President Lincoln was the president during the Civil War. When he entered office, seven states had already seceded from the Union, and the Confederacy had been formed. The Confederate constitution was drafted. When he read it, Lincoln denied that the states had ever possessed independent sovereignty as colonies and territories.
Uncompromising differences between the South (Confederacy) and the North (Union) created a civil war that lasted five years. During this war, Abraham Lincoln was president. His election led to the secession of many Southern states. After refusing to recognize the Confederacy as its own nation, the American Civil War commenced in 1861. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were industrial and agricultural economies, politics, and slavery.

The leader of an entire nation and its military forces needs to have a certain intuition and connection with its country. Without this, the leader would seem more like a ruler, which is why electing a president is a more appealing choice to most Americans. In the election of 1864, the fate of our whole country was indirectly affected by the outcome. 3 years into the Civil war, the union was electing, or reelecting, its new president. Abraham Lincoln and George McClellan both ran for president in 1864, but Lincoln came out on top after a very long fight to win for the presidency.
When President Lincoln was first elected, he was put in a difficult situation. Multiple states were in the stages, or already began seceding from the Union. They used the claim of “state rights” and tariffs to disguise their true intentions; to expand and protect the institution of slavery. Shortly after Lincoln was first inaugurated, the Civil War broke up, bringing neighbors against neighbors, friends against friends and families against families. Near the end of one of the bloodiest wars in the history of the country, Lincoln was elected for a second time.
After Lincoln won the election, it had shocked the South, making them angry. After this, the first southern state seceded from the Union: South Carolina. In 1864, the North reelected Lincoln as president, and he was sworn in again on March 4, 1865. Later, it appeared very likely that the North would win the Civil War. Lincoln suggested easy terms for restoring government in the states that had revolted. The main Confederate general, Robert E. Lee, surrendered his troops on April 9 1865. On April 11, 1865, Lincoln gave a monologue in which he promoted the right to vote for freed slaves.
Civil War The year was 1861 and the first battle had already begun. The country was now divided as two teams, the confederates and the unions. I wasn’t looking forward to the upcoming battle that was about to happen. I sat in my tent in silence, thinking about what might happen.
