How do you define the horror genre and it’s characteristics of what it contains? My perspective of how the genre of horror is categorized. Many people describe the horror genre as being related to monsters, well that’s not so, all of the horror genres contain the five elements of the horror genre, but not all deal with monsters. Like the monkey’s paw and the tell-tale heart, most horror genres contain the elements; fear, surprise, suspense, mystery, and spoiler. The first example is in the tell-tale heart after he killed the old man and the police came and he kept a great composure. This is suspense because you would wonder why would be so nice to you. The second example was in the monkey’s paw when the sergeant told him to throw it back on the fire. This is suspense to me because you would wonder why he would want him to throw it back on the fire, what was wrong with it? The last example from the tell tale heart is when he was pacing around the floor with long strides. This is suspense because it gives a hint or clue that something is mentally wrong with that person or something is going on. The suspense part of the horror genre is my favorite because it leaves you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen
