. While vision is an essential element of transformational leadership, such leaders are rare. Prophet Muhammad was one of the earlier visionary leaders of distinction. He had a vision of greatness. It is said that if the measure of leadership is only the exercise of unquestioned authority, then anyone who happens to occupy a position of power can be called a leader. By this definition, then all sovereigns, presidents, prime ministers, chief executives, judges, police chiefs, and school principals can be classified as leaders because they significantly use positional authority. And of course, many parents too use authority (often combined with a good measure of punishment and coercion) to get their children to obey them.
