The camp was a struggle for him because he could have been killed at any moment, And he was being worked to death and also they were starving all of the prisoners to death which affected most of them. Elie faced many obstacles he and one of them is his obsession in questioning his religion and questioning God. He lost faith and said “Its over. God is no longer with us” (Wiesel 107).
Throughout the book Night, Elie has different thoughts and beliefs on his religion and God. With his beliefs the author gives a tone from the way he thinks and believes his religion. The author communicates many different tones throughout chapter 5. One tone from the beginning of the chapter was anger.
Surviving Death World War II began on September 1, 1939. Hitler believed that because of the Jewish population, Germany lost World War I. Hitler also believed that the only way to restore Germany and as well as avoid losing was by torturing and killing Jews. Hitler's inhumanity towards the Jews was the cause of this mass murder that killed 11 million innocent people. About six million out of eleven million Jews were killed. The book “Night” by Elie Wiesel is a powerful and thought-provoking account of the Holocaust, and it raises important questions about the human capacity to face great adversity. The characters in “Night” are forced to confront unimaginable hardship and suffering. They are stripped of their homes, families, and basic human rights, and are subjected to unspeakable atrocities. Despite all of this, many of them find the strength to persevere and survive. The book has taught me how when a person is faced with great adversity, they must persevere to maintain their human spirit.
This constant physical battle with death is also displayed in the poem when Thomas repeats phrases such as, “Do not go gentle into that good night” and “rage, rage against the dying of the light” (Thomas), alluding that the son is pleading for his father not to succumb to death and instead, fight for that last glimmer of hope. Both authors' linguistic choices display the prevailing theme that one must maintain faith, even in the harshest of times, and remind the reader of how precious life is. In Night, death feels inevitable. This constant feeling of death causes Elie’s father’s death to be understated, with Elie merely waking up to his father being gone. Elie Wiesel was a teenager living in Pennsylvania with his family when they were forced away in 1944 to the Auschwitz concentration camp where he and his father got separated from his mother and sister. Eliezer and his father had to see and go through many traumatizing situations, but after being moved to Buchenwald his father died of dysentery, and Eliezer was eventually liberated along with the rest of the people in Buchenwald. Through the time human beings have shown how far could the discrimination and hate go, and the effect that it has done. The book “Night’ ’by Elie Wiesel is a perfect example of this. In Elie’s case, his every move is the difference between living and dying. Elie is a young Romanian Jew living in World War II. He shares the hardships and horrors he endures while in the ghetto and at Nazi concentration camps where the Jews are constantly alienated and treated terribly.

The narrator in Night lives a nightmare in the concentration camps he and his family were in. In “Fear” the speaker conveys the true horror of the ghettos and what they can do to families. In Both cases, the Nazis are the oppressors and are the root of the conflict.

Elie Wiesel’s autobiography Night, shows many parallels between the topics we have been covering in class. The largest of these themes is that of John Stuart Mill, although this is not the only theme it will be my focus. John Stuart Mill suggests that individuals should question their own beliefs in an attempt to find the upmost truth. Mill used the term reasoned discourse to farther explain his belief, it suggests that each individual should constantly be looking for truth in their own options, goals, and beliefs. This principle suggests that each individual should always assessing their situations and surroundings to best build their moral compass and character.
