God on Trial is a Boston television play written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and produced by Mark Redhead in 2008. Stars of the film included Antony Sher, Rupert Graves, and Jack Shepherd. The play takes place in Auschwitz during World War II. The Jewish prisoners put God on Trial for not looking out for them and abandoning them during this time. They question if God has broken the covenant with them and is letting the Nazi's wipe out the Jewish population. The film is based on Elie Wiesel's book ‘The Trial of God.’ Elie is a survivor of Auschwitz, the largest of Hitler's death camps. God on Trial was a very thought provoking film to watch. But it did catch my attention at certain parts and really gives you an idea of how the Jewish people were treated during World War II/The Holocaust. To watch this film, you have to understand the religion and understand what they are talking about if you want to have a good experience. I don't understand Jewish religion that much, so, it was harder for me to understand the film and get into it. This film is based on a true story. It was based closely on the book ‘The Trial of God’ which I had already mentioned. Elie Wiesel, the author, survived Auschwitz and lives to tell the story of how the Jewish people reacted to this situation and how they put God on trial for being the cause of the whole thing. They made points throughout the film that God has abandoned them and had broken their covenant. They also made points that God set up the Holocaust and that God has set it up as a “test” for them. wanting to see if they would be able to keep their faith. They believe that God has abandoned them. They think that maybe there is no God after all or if he does exist, what he is doing is evil.
