Eliza Pinckney grew up in an uncommon way for a female in the middle of the 18th century. The majority of her childhood was in the West Indies up until her father, a member of the British army, had her go to England to become educated. The reason for that was because he wanted his daughter to be educated. This was significant because women did not go to school; they stayed at home and did domestic duties. When she was in her early teens, Pinckney’s family moved to the States, and they owned plantations and farming properties. Pinckney’s father was then called for duty out of the United States which left her in charge of all the land that her family owned. While doing this, Pinckney decided to self educate herself on business and agriculture
