On August 6 and August 9 of 1945, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. This decision fell on the former vice president, newly inaugurated president, Harry Truman. It has remained one of the most controversial decisions in U.S. history. His decision to drop the atomic bombs on Japan shook the world. President Truman could have dropped the bomb for numerous reasons. The obvious one is to end WWII. WWII had been going on for six years, with America fighting for nearly 4 years. The cost of all that fighting had been hundreds of billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives.
