Elizabeth Cady Stanton was an influential activist for women’s rights, whom dedicated her life to the suffrage movement. As an advocate for women’s rights, Stanton was known for her powerful writing like her final speech, “Solitude of Self.” While the speech itself was meant as a final farewell, Stanton also made one last attempt to speak up for women and their fight for equality. The speech targeted many areas like the rights that all citizens should have like voting, education, and property. The main points of political rights, the freedom of knowledge, and political rights for women was due to the fact that women cannot be dependent on men; women should be treated the same as men on their level are treated. It is at this point in the speech where Stanton puts all of emotions to appeal to people the wants of women as individuals next to men. It was her last “wake up call” for society to realize the tension between the sameness and differences of men and women.
