However, when thought of, most people remember her contributions to the women’s rights movement. She, and other feminists such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, began to realize that there were numerous similarities between slaves and women. Both were fighting to get away from the male-dominated culture and beliefs. In 1848, these women began a convention in Seneca Falls, regarding women’s rights(Brinkley 330). They believed that women should be able to vote, basing their argument on the clause “all men and women are created equal”.
She lost followers because they felt that men would disown them if they were found with Stanton, and because they thought that these ideas were outlandish. Women thought that these ideas were outlandish because they had lived this way for so long why would they want to change the way they live now. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a nineteenth century woman’s suffrage and civil rights activist of which she held strong beliefs in exalting the rights of women during this time era. Stanton was born in Johnstown, New York, November 1815 into a socially well-known family within this community, where she was also placed into the highest forms of education that women and girls could receive for this time period. Stanton’s education began at Johnstown Academy and then continued at Emma Willard’s Troy Female Seminary in New York. She married Henry Stanton around the year 1840 and the couple had seven children together.
Through here, Stanton was able to travel and do lecturing for 8 month until 1880 (Elizabeth Cady Stanton). One of her popular lecture was “Our Girl”, talk about education and socialization of girls. It was a way to spread the women’s right movement that Stanton fought before. After she stopped lecturing, Stanton spent most of her time to writing and traveling.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a woman who was denied entry to the World Anti-Slavery Movement because she was a woman. After being denied entry, Stanton realised that women should have just as many rights as men, including women’s suffrage (History.com Staff). When men and women are compared, neither one is greater than the other. We are all equal. Stanton shared the same views stating that we are all equal.
Stanton shows a decent amount of credibility throughout her speech. Although the author fails to further strengthen her claims with some sort of statistics, she still manages to make concrete points that are able to stand alone. In actuality, Mrs. Stanton already generates enough credibility to support the arguments that are being explained throughout the speech. One cannot simply state that due to the fact of Mrs. Stanton being a woman in the 18th century, she automatically receives enough credibility to make her arguments. But in truth what makes Mrs. Stanton credible is the pragmatic standpoints she adopts when she addresses the growing issues that women face in the United States.

She is especially known for the speech she did in Seneca falls and her use of rhetorical devices to make sure she has people’s attention and show how serious she was about the subject. In Seneca Falls Keynote Address, Elizabeth Cady Stanton uses anaphora’s, metaphors and allusion to persuade the audience to show that women should be treated equally just like men and should be more appreciated. Due to this speech it started the whole revolution in making sure women would be granted more rights as American citizens.
This document was modeled directly on the Declaration of Independence and stated that women, like men, were owed their natural rights as equals in society. A line from the Declaration that encapsulates the entirety of Stanton’s beliefs is “woman is man’s equal, was intended to be so by the Creator” (Stanton). This is in regard to the equality of women when it comes to voting and politics, in the workforce, and in society as a whole. Stanton believed that men and women were one and the same and that women could do everything a man could do if it were not for the limitations set by the government. This document was then taken to the Seneca Falls Convention where she spread her ideas to activists propelling the movement
For Elizabeth Cady Stanton it did not come easy, she went through many hard times to prove what she had believed in for years. This book give a very good understanding of Elizabeth Cady Stanton's life and the many struggles she had to overcome to get to where she was when she was finally satisfied with the work she had done. Stanton wrote, “It was often necessary to travel night and day, sometimes changing cars at midnight, and perhaps arriving at the destination half and hour or less before going on the platform, and starting again on the journey upon leaving it, in constant fever of anxiety (p. 121).” If it wasn’t for her and few other women who saw more potential in what women had to offer, i am not so sure that we wouldn’t be fighting the same fight they did all those years
During Progressive Era, there were many reforms that occurred, such as Child Labor Reform or Pure Food and Drug Act. Women Suffrage Movement was the last remarkable reform. This movement was fighting about the right of women to vote, which was basically about women’s right movement. Many great leaders – Elizabeth Cad Stanton and Susan B. Anthony - formed the National American Women Suffrage Association (NAWSA). Although those influential leaders faced hardship during this movement, they never gave up and kept trying their best.
Men should have absolute rule over society. This was the mindset back when women's rights activists were considered rare and unorthodox. In A Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, Elizabeth Cady Stanton rejects the status quo and finds solutions to the overbearing problems she sees within society. A concept that has greatly been dreamt over throughout history has been challenged, by a woman. Elizabeth Cady Stanton exerts repetition, allusion, and pathos to express her opinions in favor of increasing women's rights.
