The Elizabethan Era had many rules and laws, so many that sometimes they were hard to keep track of. The capital offenses included robbery, larceny/theft, rape, and arson (Harrison). The more frequently committed crimes included theft, begging, cutpurses, adultery, debtors, poaching, forgery, fraud, and dice-cogging (Elizabethan Crime). In a desperate effort to control how the less fortunate and homeless behaved, Parliament passed the Poor Laws, which made it illegal to beg for food and money (Harrison). These laws went so far as to make it illegal to live on the streets (Crime and Punishment).
Shakespearean clothing fits in the Elizabethan category. The Elizabethan Era is also known as the Golden Age due to the European’s growth in power. Elizabethan Era clothing was very fancy, complex, and colorful. Huge, puffy dresses and frilly collars come to mind when thinking about this era’s style. The people considered fashion very important.
During the Elizabethan Era, a big part of the citizen’s culture was sports. These sports were mainly for the nobility and upper class, who spent many of their days watching and performing them. They were a source of great fun and entertainment, and are also considered an essential part of Elizabethan Era life. Three of the most popular and common sports were fencing, hunting, and tennis. These sports brought pleasure and amusement to the people of Elizabethan Era.
During the Elizabethan era, knights were claimed to be the very best and served the Queen. The knights were a particular class during the era. They were known for their valor and courage during battles. Sometimes even the second sons of earls and lords result to becoming celebrated knights, as seen in some of Shakespeare’ plays, such as “Henry IV”. Knights were used to accomplish conspiracies and schemes traveling to distant countries and foreign lands for battles.
Committing murder, torturing people, and creating dreadful memories for innocent people. These are all qualities that ghouls consider when selecting their first victim. If I were a ghoul, I would want my name to be Elizabeth Bathery. Ghouls delight in all things gruesome, and that is why Bathery would make the perfect name. She is at the tippy top of the list of all people that were disgusting and repulsive.
Lower classes, such as the Merchants, Yeomanry and the Labourers often worked to be able to provide for themselves and their families. Merchants, for example, usually earned through selling and trading everyday goods from a foreign country to a specific trade. Modern commerce greatly developed throughout the Elizabethan era, with daily goods such as cloth and weaving becoming essential to the people 's needs. This resulted in frequently increasing prices for imported common merchandise, whilst most merchants greatly benefitted in wealth through delivering trades of essential goods that they believed would benefit their country.
Sports During the Elizabethan Era During the Elizabethan time period, there were many types of sports played. The people took part in and enjoyed a wide variety of sports. Some games were friendly enough for everyone to play.
Elizabethan Medical Practices of the 1600s In the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries victims of the Bubonic plague (Black Death) would be sealed in their houses (Byrne).The houses would be locked and bolted from the outside. The victims were not allowed to leave and no one else could enter also. This action was equivalent to signing a death warrant for the whole family. Unfortunately, it was one of the terrible consequences of the disease.
Medicine Medicine during the Elizabethan Era was extremely basic. The knowledge most people had about medicine came from their ancestors through many generations. The Elizabethan Era was a time when terrible illnesses such as the Black Plague were killing nearly one-third of the population. The cause of many illnesses during this time was lack of sanitation. Back then, women played a major role in medicine.
Many people do not realize how fortunate they are to have the medical advances and medical technology we easily have the right to use. People from many years ago did not have specialized doctors and medicine to cure their diseases that we easily have access to today. (Ramsey) Many civilizations used what they thought to be alleviating processes, but medical experts today know now were pointless and dangerous. Among these people were the Elizabethans.

The technology of today was not available during the Elizabethan Era. The entertainment choices also changed according to one’s financial status. Compared to the lower class, the wealthy had many more opportunities. Due to the lack of modern technology, the upper class of the Elizabethan Era spent their free time playing cards, hosting meals, dancing, going to festivals, participating in tournaments, hunting, and other activities.
Elizabethan artists drew artistic concepts from European renaissance and were mostly influenced by Queen Elizabeth's desires herself. The Queen is often featured in paintings and literature of this time. Her love of arts also raised artists into a higher social class. The main goal of all artists was to impress the queen. Notably Shakespeare looked to do this when writing his plays.
Physicians, and Medicine During the Elizabethan Time The Elizabethan time period was from 1558 through 1603 known as the Renaissance. During the Renaissance there was not any running water, so people would have to throw their waste in the streets. With people’s waste in the street came many illnesses including The Plague. Even a minor scrap could kill you in the next minute.
William Shakespeare wrote Hamlet at a time when England was embroiled in debate about the nature of ghosts. The Elizabethan people believed in the existence of spirits. However, there was a discrepancy in how the people believed the spirits interacted and influenced mankind. The conservative held to the old doctrine stating that ghosts were spirits of deceased people and therefore not evil, while the reforming denied the possibility of ghosts in favor of spirits being evil devils. The Elizabethan Era was one marked by extreme violence and superstition which heavily influenced Shakespeare 's writing, including the ghosts he incorporated into his plays.
A Golden Time: The Elizabethan Period of the Renaissance During the years 1558 to 1603, the age of the Renaissance had reached its peak. Many art forms bloomed and flourished, as did the trade and the economy. But this is mainly for England, the place from whence the Elizabethan period, the literary height of the Renaissance, had begun.
