Folse stated in his article that ESL grammar is different. He referred to this difference as grammar accent, which is a set of grammar usages that do not sound like English spoken by native speaker. In the article, Folse gives eight grammatical errors that are common on ELL students. One example that I can relate with is “She was born on 1988.” I am aware that this example is grammatical incorrect because it doesn’t sound right just as Folse mentioned in the article. It took me a lot of exposure to the English language to understand that not everything that sounds correct is the correct grammatical structure. Many ELL students face this situations because teacher do not take their time to explain ELL students English grammar structures.
