There is only one King of Rock ‘N’ Roll. Elvis Presley made stupendous advances in the music industry starting in 1954. He lived through the Great Depression, active duty in Germany in 1958, and many more things that formed the world that American’s get to live in today. Presley served in war, gave money to numerous churches and charities, made a large amount of films, and wrote and sang a gargantuan amount of music. Today, Presley’s legacy as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll lives on. Elvis grew up in poverty, and even in the harsh living environment he lived in, Presley somehow managed to show his talent throughout the world. The new parents were quite distraught by the birth of their new son, because while they gained Elvis, they lost his twin brother, Jessie Garon. As Elvis grew older, his father was sent to prison for forging a check. Gladys Presley could not make their house payments, because she did not make enough money. Orville Bean, the man who pressed the charges against Vernon Presley, also owned the property they lived on; Bean evicted them from their home in Tupelo, Mississippi. Elvis and his mother packed everything up and moved to Memphis with their cousins, Frank and Leona Richards. Elvis longed for his father in the most desperate way. Attending church on Sundays at the First Assembly of God Tabernacle with his mother got his mind off of his father. Gladys Presley and some of their family friends wrote letters to the governor of Tennessee requesting Vernon Presley’s release. Even Orville Bean wrote letters to the governor. After nine months, Elvis’ father returned home. When Elvis attended school at Humes High School, he knew he was talented, but had a tendency to hide his talent from his peers, finally he signed up for the high school talent show. The dentist gave him some medication to help ease the pain of the two fillings. Around 10:30 that same morning, he decided to go read in his bathroom. Three hours later, his girlfriend at the time, Ginger Allen, found him face down in the bathroom unconscious. The doctors confirmed his death at 3:30 pm, on August 16, 1977. After hearing of his son’s death, Vernon Presley cried; “What am I going to do? Everything is gone.” Doctors said his cause of death was cardiac arrhythmia due to undetermined heartbeat.
