When someone says “The King of Rock n’ Roll,” only one name comes to mind, and that name is Elvis Presley. Presley is like no other singer, with his voice being able to reach many different ranges of music. He has been able to have eighteen songs reach number one on the Billboard Top 100 and still have forty-two million listeners on Spotify alone. This is very impressive because he is still able to leave an impact even though he passed away over forty-five years ago. Presley has also changed the way that music is perceived for years to come. It can easily be argued that Presley is one of the best musicians of all time, because The Rolling Stones Magazine named him the third best musician. As a young child, Elvis went through many hardships and struggles, but was able to overcome them with family and began to learn music. On January 8, 1935, Presley was born in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi. His twin, Jessie Garon Presley, was not as lucky as Elvis. Jessie Garon Presley was stillborn. Since his twin died at birth, Presley’s mom, Gladys Presley, would say that Elvis had “the strength of two men”. This led Elvis Presley to grow up as an only child with his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all having a big impact on who he became. Presley’s extended family also had a great impact on his early childhood because Presley’s dad, Vernon Presley, wrote a faulty check which landed Vernon Presley eight months in prison. Elvis was first introduced to the mass genres of music when his family went to the Assembly of God Church, listening to the black blues-men in the neighborhood, and country music radio programs.
