Emile Durkheim was a famous french philosopher, often referred to as the father of sociology.He came up with one of the three major sociology perspectives. Karl Marx was called the father of social conflict. There are three different major types of sociological perspectives; they are functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism. Symbolic interactionism focuses on relationship among individuals within a society. Functionalism is a theory that states all aspect of a society serve a function. Conflict theory looks at society as if it was a competition. Functionalism is a paradigm based on the assumption that society is a unified whole that functions because of the contributions of its separate structures. Conflict theory is a paradigm that sees social conflict as the basis of society and social change and the emphasizes a materialist view of society a critical view of the status quo and dynamic model of historical change. Symbolic interactionism is a paradigm that sees interaction and meaning as central to society and assumes that meanings are not inherent but are created through interactions. One is that the system in how the recognized and punish deviance creates a kind of norm and tells people what is acceptable and not acceptable to behave in public and if they do not comply then they will be punished. The second purpose is that it enables a social parameter within populations. Functionalist believe that different elements of a society can affect society as a whole. Those factors can include a strain of some sort and that will cause people to be deviant. For example, having laws that tell people what is acceptable and what is not acceptable then you they can determine that if what they are doing is okay to do in society.
