The bird also symbolizes how people go too far with the amount of power they have. The bird has clipped wings, is trapped in a cage, and its feet are tied up, which means that the bird has no escape. The bird has no freedom and has no way to escape, because it cannot walk or run. Since the bird is being abused and has no power, it is traumatized and explains how its life is like a nightmare. In the text, it states, “His shadow shouts on a nightmare scream/his wings are clipped and his feet are tied” (Angelou paragraph 5).
(173). This shows his nihilistic behaviour which he likely did just for an excuse to beat him. The Bird has been known to “eavesdrop on men, and beat those who mentioned him” (177). This action shows the Bird’s inhumanity brought out on him in the war. He degraded people until they wished they were dead.
This is shown when the birds kill the school teacher, Annie, who is full of jealousy. Or when the birds attack the house where Mrs.Brenner, a possessive and jealous mother, lives. It is unknown if audiences should find a deep meaning in this, but it is a great movie no matter
Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters contemplate this disturbing discovery, and they wonder who else could be capable of this act of violence. They know Mrs. Wright surely did not do it, as she cared for the bird greatly, she even “used to sing real pretty herself” and the women have already concluded “she would’ve liked a bird.” That leaves Mr. Wright, and due to the fact that he broke the birdcage, it is only reasonable that he killed the bird as well. This realization that the women make leads them to what the men have been searching for all day, a motive. Mr. Wright likes the quiet, so he killed the singing canary which happens to be the only thing bringing happiness to Mrs. Wright.

When the women unwrap the bird, Mrs. Peters notices that “somebody wrung its neck.” It does not make sense for Mrs. Wright to kill her own bird because it was the only thing that brought light into her life. She cared about it so much that she wrapped it in such an expensive fabric, silk, even when she scarcely has enough money for essentials, such as clothing. While Mrs. Hale is examining Mrs. Wright’s clothing, she holds up a “shabby black skirt that bore the marks of much making over.” This suggests that she would put the bird in front of her own well—being, so she would not kill the canary.
The birds themselves represent mother nature. They symbolize all of nature, not just the animals. They help push along the idea that mother nature is superior to everything else. How in the blink of an eye mother nature can take control of what used to be hers. In this story savage birds are used to represent this, but in reality it could be anything.

All of the people before the girl were just trying to get a bargain on the bird not even thinking about it’s happiness or well-being. The sick girl could have just kept the swallow for her own amusement, but instead let it be free to make it happy. This theme is portrayed by several characters in the story. One way the author conveys this message through the bird by implying that nobody understood how the bird felt because they weren't in its situation.
However, the lamentable bird in the poem gets his freedom taken, not only by being caged, but also by having clipped wings, unable to do anything. The caged bird just wants to soar as the other bird does in the ravishing scenery, and when compared it makes him even sadder. In the text is says, “The caged bird sings with fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still...” (line 15-18, Angelou). The author creates this situation to intensify how badly the bird wishes to be free, to him the world doesn’t seem ominous in any way.
In the beginning parts when the narrator of the story is dealing with the conflict we are introduced to some peculiar birds that the protagonist despises for good reasons. They are a product of some amateur genetic mutation or some idiot not doubt. These birds fly around calling out several undesirable curse words and screeching them horribly toward people. This seems as an absolutely nightmare for anyone with a proper sense of decency. I might be off the path here, but these birds could be a symbol of how all animals and pets feel towards humans for altering their genetics and mutating them.
A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes, The poem was really good. The poem was basically saying, if you put a dream on hold, what can happen? It can go either one of two ways. The lines stood out to me, how the poet said, “Does it stink like rotten meat? Or does it crust over-- like a syrupy sweet?”
