Murphy became a journalist, writer, magistrate, political and legal reformer, and women suffragist. In the 1910s and 20s, the world was still dominated by men. Women were still seen as inferior to men. Emily Murphy fought for women’s democratic rights.
The political ideology of EMILY’s List deals with the equality of women. The group advocates and works to get women equally represented in all levels of government. It recruits women to run for office and works to get pro-choice Democratic women elected. It try’s to block the anti-women agenda and promote progressive, pro-family policies. It is in fact the Democratic Party that EMILY’s List favors.

They were being sympathised with by surrounding countries. However, some historians could argue they didn 't help as it also showed women to be violent, and not trustworthy to be granted with the vote. Furthermore, WW1 helped women get the vote as it showed women were now valued as they where involved in munitions - making weapons for the men at war. The women’s suffrage movement in the United States was a movement to give women the right to vote. The suffragist had many obstacles on their way to ratifying the 19th Amendment. Most people at the time had strong opposition to women being involved in political and public affairs. Women were seen as housewives and not too much more. This proved to be difficult when the suffragists tried to get their point across.
People pick sides on issues, and many don’t hesitate to vocalize their opinions. But when it comes to physically implementing change, many supporters fall by the wayside, especially if a large community of people with the same views doesn’t already exist. People fear standing alone, and so it seems easier to be silent than suffer the backlash that comes with having an opinion. They were going to fight for what they wanted. Susan B. Anthony was inspired to start helping women earn this right through many things. She first got the idea to help the women when she was campaigning to ban alcohol. Because she was a woman, no one from the conferences would let her speak, as women were not allowed to speak at the conferences. Susan B. Anthony realized that women would not be taken seriously in politics unless they had what the men had, which was the right to vote (“Susan”).
One critic believes this is due to her complete denial to yield to anything in her life that will cause an unwanted change. He says, “But we can tackle the problem of Miss Emily’s motivation more effectively if we say at once that the trouble with her is her obstinate refusal to submit to, or even to concede, the inevitability of change. Hence her refusal to pay taxes. A procedure has been set and must be allowed to continue” (Johnson, 526). Johnson believes that her constant rejection of change is what drives all of her motivations throughout the story and views it as a major character flaw.
