Page 9 Quotations A big part of the book Emma is the character’s conversations. Some of the quotations throughout the book particularly stand out to me and catch my attention. One of the quotes that I find interesting is found on page 72 and it reads, “There go you and your riddle-book one of these days.” Emma made this remark as Harriet and her were visiting a poor sick family. She was telling Harriet, there is the house where you and your book of riddles will go one day. The mood was very friendly and playful as Harriet thought the small house to be very cute. I found the mood of this quote to be humorous and that is why I picked it because it made me laugh. Mr. Woodhouse’s obsession of being healthy is a very quirky and humorous part of his personality. Furthermore on page 422 it states, “Very little white satin, very few lace veils; a most pitiful business!” Mrs. Elton attended Mr. Knightley and Emma’s wedding and was being a snob about it. She criticized the amount of satin on Emma’s dress and the amount of lace veils she wore. Mrs. Elton was being catty and rude and this quote demonstrates her character. The mood of the quote was jealousy because Mrs. Elton was being rude because she was jealous of Emma.
