The presentation on “Learning Theories” was very enriching and informative. I have learnt that Empiricism is a theory of knowledge claiming that an extant universe is based on experience, primarily on perception through the five senses. Empiricists claim that all knowledge can be derived from experience. Moreover, empiricism also provides an account of mind, language, and learning. It also says that knowledge can be found within our senses. Humanism theory particularly believes in freedom of thought. Individual inquiry and discovery are the bases for acquiring knowledge. Similarly, Rationalism theory is an approach to acquire knowledge through use of reason and knowledge can be found within us. In fact, rationalism is neither a technique nor a method, but it is an approach. (EDU-502) Among the three theories of learning I would relatively prefer to emphasize and inculcate the ideas of Empiricism in my lesson especially to teach language in Pre-Primary. I have found that empiricism theory is obviously applicable because in primary classes the children learn through observation and experience using five senses. Particularly, acquisition of second language in Pre-Primary children becomes difficult for the first two to three months. However, language can be easily acquired through their experience and observation. (Empiricist view) Nevertheless, it depends upon how techniques and experiences of children are being used by the teachers in the classroom. The
