Two minds, two perspectives
Brains are like cars. Sitting on the showroom floor, grouped together by model, cars appear to be twins wearing different colored clothing. Once driven off the lot, a car's life begins, and things change. They may live in a garage or in the street, get taken care of or abused, used for runs to the grocery store or traveling 200 miles per day. They may belong to a person or a family, encounter speed bumps or guard rails, run smoothly or break down, left stock or customized.
While each car becomes unique and special, the shared basics are the same. A cars have an engine and transmission, move on wheels and use gas. Inside, all have seats, a steering wheel, and a mirror. The list of standard requirement equipment

Each emotion has a decidated pathway. Every piece of information is run thru all of the emtional pathways. Let's say you had a fight with your significant other. All of the details pertaining to the fight will be sent down each emotional pathway. If there is enough specific information to make it thru, an emotion will be felt. Ranging from love to fear, to anger, to indifference, the emotions produced will be automatic and relevant to the fight. The emotions mix together to form how we feel about the fight. They will be applied to planning for the future, reasoning out what is going one, and making choices about what you should do. It is possible to focus on one emotion, multiple emotions, or the total sum of all emotion. If there was no information that made it all the way down the joy pathway, try as you might you cannot feel joy because it isn't there. The conscious mind moves, the subconscious mind digs in and defends. The conscious mind is clueless.
When we sit back and take stock of things, we rise above consciousness and can see ourselves and our behavior objectively. From this viewpoint, we self analyze, re-assess, and make plans. Part of this assessment should be the question of who is currently driving the bus. Being the boss, the conscious mind automatically and mistakenly assumes it is driving. It moves forward - and is blocked. Tries again -and is blocked. You have probably been there and felt the frustration.
It is reasonable to assume that success and happiness can only be achieved when the conscious mind drives, and the subconscious stops building roadblocks. The subconscious works hidden in the background, we cannot see what it is doing, or what it has already done. We are blind to its efforts to keeps us exactly where we are. Blind yes, but we still have other sense that can figure things out. It means taking a round about way to find the information, but it is the only viable
