Introduction

Understanding the past through looking at the case study on the Entombed Warriors of Xian it is determined that the past is influential in modern day activities. The uncovering of one the major tourist attractions in china was by complete mistake. It was uncovered by a farmer who was building a well in 1974 and later oped as a tourist attraction in 1979. It’s known to be apart of the Qin Empire’s era and he was later buried there. There have been experimental pits dug around the tomb but the tomb itself has never been excavated.

By looking at the Roman Catacombs, it is seen that the past influences modern day activities.

Relative dating does not provide actual dates for objects, although it can be used to arrange geological events. Through looking at strata it is able to look at timeline events and arrange them chronologically. By looking at the Entombed Warriors of Xian, it is clear that relative dating would of been used to determine ‘Tomb 1’, ‘Tomb 2’, and ‘Tomb 3’ are all from the same era. It is the first step in determining a date of an object. Through the use of typology historians and archeologists are able to discover the cultural changes that occurred within the civilization. In reference to the Entombed Warriors of Xian it is evident that artifacts from the same time are from the same background and culture. This is known because they are made from similar material. In relation to this case study the roman catacombs has also used typology. This is used by understanding the artifacts and their relationships with the people and their heritage. The importance of typology is to determine the past in order to recreate the cultural
