To commence, in the documentary Iceman Reborn deals with a mummy named “Otzi” who has been dead for over five thousand years. On September 1991, he was found by two hikers in Ötztal Alps, which is border of Austria and Italy. Otzi was a fantastic find that he had to be replicated by an artist. Gary the artist who went through the four step process of sculpting, molding, painting, and finish the detail. Otzi first had to go through 3-D printing where he was converted from liquid to plastic solid. Today a replica of the Otzi mummy can be found in New York’s “Cold Spring Laboratory” and is open for the world to see. In addition, upon discovering the mummy scientists did research on Otzi. Two of the techniques used on the mummy were carbon dating and using genetic code. The results were that he was about forty two years old, five feet with two inches, weighing one hundred and ten pounds with dark hair and eyes. “Wounded by an arrowhead in his left shoulder, Otzi is thought to have frozen to death while fleeing attackers.” There has been speculation that Otzi perhaps was a trader, as a result he would have to travel long distances for his distribution of his crops. Some of the information gathered today we still go under today such hunting, trading, and getting tattoos. This piece of mummy art allows us to expand our knowledge on how the human interacted and live thousands of years ago. However, there are still some questions left to be unanswered. Some questions such as, did he ever live with friends or family during his time or was he alone all the time? What was Otzi doing at a mountain without other people looking after him while going through his trading? Another question I have is why the remains of Otzi were never discovered by other animals during all the years of his death.
