Environmental Justice Issues In The Hoosier Community

In today’s society, particularly in our smaller cities and communities we typically deal with many environmental justice issues, that has impacted our atmosphere in a very negative way. Environmental justice would be describe as the fair treatment for all people, no matter the race, color or income should be provided with high levels of environmental protection. In other words, it is stating that everyone should be able live in a very clean and healthy environment. Many of the environmental justice issues that we have typically deal with on the daily basis, are things like pollution, global-warming, climate change and loss of diversity. One of the main issues that we deal in my community is air pollution. According to, the Hoosier Environmental Council, pollution can be known to affect everyone, but Hoosiers communities bear a much heavier burden than others. Those inequalities tend to track with economic and racial inequities, are at the heart of the concept of environmental justice. Also, Hoosiers are known to be one of the fifth highest in the world from premature death from pollution (HEC, 2016). To be more specific, we not deal with air pollution but water pollution which can be also known as non-source pollution. Water pollution can be caused by toxic waste, storm water run-off or sewage leaks from our natural surroundings. As studied by our news source, Wish-TV Indiana would is considered to the worst in the U.S for water pollution. Indiana itself has relinquish in their water ways then other states. In other words, water pollution has made a major impact in not only my community, but the whole state of Indiana as well. Many of people in my community have tried to come up with ways to reduce the amount of water pollution, although they sometimes they seem to fail (WISH-TV, 2014). Another main issue that we tend to deal with in my community is recycling. In these cases, because people do not like to recycle they rather throw it away or litter. For example, my grandparents always drink water when they are finish, they do not like recycle their plastic, they throw it in the trashcan instead of a recycling bin. Recycling is an important factor in our society, when we do not recycle it constantly make our environment
