Race, class and environmental justice Race, class and environmental justice article speaks on the growth of the environmental justice movement in the USA. While reading this I feel the authors’ purpose is to research recent studies along with evidence or claims that will advocate allegations of the environmental injustice in the USA. The article states that Environmental equity comes from three sources. First being social equity which refers to the role of social and economic factors like class, race, gender, ethnicity, and political power in environmental degradation. Second is the generational equity which is the framework of legal norms to bring justice to future generations from current and past practices. Lastly is procedural equity which is the extent to which governmental rules and regulations are applied in a non-discriminatory way. (1) Defining Fairness, the finding includes an approach based on Patterson and Andrews (1995) which suggest that environmental justice can be defined as fairness in terms of decision making. (3) Characterizing Unfairness, the finding lets the reader know that it’s not that easy to meet any definitions of fairness all the time, there is a time where it might be criticized.
