PROMETHEUS, A.K.A. “EQUALITY 7-2521” On Monday evening, Equality 7-2521 was caught being late to House of Street Sweepers after the last bell. He was taken to the House of Corrective Detention and beaten until he told Council where he had been, but never breathed a word of it. Four days later the guard was doing his nightly rounds, checking prisoners and cells, when he realized room 7 was empty. Equality 7-2521 had escaped!

From the women’s suffrage movement, the civil rights movements of the 1960s, and finally and most prominently in current American news, gay rights equality. However, equality has arrived in the short story “Harrison Bergeron” in an egalitarian society. At what cost though? Where people are limited by the government; devices created to “handicap” society’s potential so that they are equal in the year 2081.
Despite his teachers warning to dare not choose in your minds the work you would like to do when you leave the Home of Students,Equality longs to be a Scholar because he Loves the Science of Things (Rand 23). Equality commits to the job that the Council Of Vocations gave him, when he sets his eyes on Liberty-3000. This becomes an issue because as men are not allowed to notice women and women are not permitted to notice men. .A collectivist society frowns upon the love of one person over another because all things are meant to be equally loved by all.
Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 brings mention to the way equality is perceived by society. Equality is safe, it’s comfortable, people don’t worry when they have no one to judge themselves against. Langston Hughes was an American poem born in the early nineteen hundreds, who became known as the leader of the Harlem Renaissance. He published many poems that brought light to the life of people of color in the twentieth century. There are three poems that the speakers are used to portray three major themes of each poem. Racism, the American Dream, and Hopes are all the major themes that Hughes uses to highlight the average life of a person of color.
