Everyone has rebelled against their society at least one day in their lifetime. It’s easy to do once you get started, you keep going with what you’re doing and forget you were even a part of one society. Equality learns this the hard way in Anthem. In Anthem, Equality decides to rebel against his society, he then ends up in the Uncharted Forest where he is there to live the rest of his life on his own. Equality goes against his society being born different which made him disobey the laws and rules of the society. Which is where they are all one, they have to follow and accept that everyone knows what they’re doing at all times. But Equality does otherwise. He ended up in the Uncharted Forest which is; where no one is allowed, wild and dangerous, and many even be apart of the Unmentionable Times. Equality being in the Uncharted Forest created an eye opening experience for him. Beginning to realize why he really had made the lightbulb and how much control and power his society had over the people. The lightbulb was made just for him, no one else wanted it but in the end he figured out the real reason why no Scholars accepted it. It was because the lightbulb was there to help him survive, to live in the Uncharted Forest. While he’s in the Uncharted Forest he discovers freedom. No bell to wake up, happiness, use of nature to kill animals for food, and pride in what he does. All that Equality found out in the Uncharted Forest, and rebelling against the society affected Anthem by creating a distance from the real Society and what they expected in the people. It is opposite of what they’re saying throughout the novel. At the beginning it’s how you need to follow your leaders, and what your society does, but at the end it’s telling the readers how it is okay to disobey your society rules and laws. By doing so, disobeying others and doing wrong may make you end up in a bigger, better place to live and continue your life in after
