“Equilibrum”
Trying to find the balance How would life be different in the U.S. under a totalitarian rule? Would it be possible to have an opinion? What would spark the creative juices that have improved our way of life? It is my opinion, that life under totalitarian rule life would be dull and boring. Only having one person’s voice making the decisions sounds very one sided. I believe that even the movie title itself was struggling with finding this balance. The year is 2072, everyone dresses the same dark colored clothing, uniform to a point. Governmental control is forced upon the citizens through self-injected daily doses of Prozium. Prozium is a mind control elixir that suppresses emotions and encourages obedience. How does the government convince everyone to take the first dose? The “Father” sits atop the Tetragrammaton Council that governs this city. Protection for the “Father and this city are provided by an elite law enforcement division known as the Grammaton Clerics. Again the reference to the “Father” and the protection of the “Father” are similar to what we see today. First, with the Tetragrammaton Council, tetragrammaton, meaning “the four Hebrew letters usually transliterated YHWH or JHVN that form the biblical proper name of God.” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary) Second, the council being protected by Clerics, which is another name for Priests. However, theses Clerics are able to foresee things happening before they happen. They are very skilled with all weapons, most notably, automatic hand guns. They are also very skilled in the martial art of “gun kata”, a fictional gun-wielding martial art based on trajectories of fire being statistically predictable.
