ESports, formally known as electronic sports, is rising in popularity rapidly. An eSport is defined as an organized video game competition. The definition of a sport has evolved in recent years. Band, cheerleading, dancing, and even skating have all entered the controversial question, “Is it really a sport?” There are many ways to define a sport; a great way to explain it is “A competition between two opponents/teams to declare a winner.” Whether it be physical or not, it is time the world recognize eSports as a “true sport.” An eSport can be played through a variety of categories including: real-time strategy, fighting, first-person shooter, and multiplayer online battle online (moba). The most popular games are mobas in eSports, specifically League of Legends, DOTA 2, and StarCraft. Players compete in 5 versus 5 matches that usually last from 30 minutes to an hour. The players are usually referred to as pro gamers, pros for short. These pros are highly skilled in their area of work. Much like in a sport, a player must work well with a team, must be the best at what they do, and must be disciplined. The pros get their money much like the way players in MLB or NFL make theirs. The highest paid professional gamer made/makes 400,000 a year, but regular pros make around 85,000 – 100,000 a year. This salary is towards the bottom.
