In 1950 American troops were sent to help South Korea fight in the Korean War. Because of our participation in this around 36,914 lives were lost, the costs were many, and North Korea is seeking to harm us more than ever. In the end it was worth it, South Korea’s economy has grown and been strengthened, they ae now free from the threat of dictatorship, and we are good allies with South Korea. There are no or very few regrets that come with participation in this event, therefore, the United States joining the Korean war was a great sacrifice but well worth it in the end.
While there are many reasons, we joined the war two important reasons were the fact that we wanted to stop the spread of communism and that we were, and still are, supportive of South Korea and see them as our allies. Communism is the thinking in which the power should be in the hands of the government and not in the hands of the people because the leaders think they know better than the people and are desirous to force their will upon them. In other words, “An economic system based on public ownership of property and control of the methods of production, and in which no person profits from the work of others.”1 Kim Il-Sung was the leader of North Korea at the time of the Korean War; he believed all of Korea should be reunified under communism. South Korea has all there soldier stand facing North Korea to keep an eye on them while the North needs to set up three soldiers, two facing each other as too keep an eye on each other and one standing in-between and behind them so he can keep an eye one both of them and see the South, this is done to prevent anyone from leaving or entering. This along tells the story of the way people are treated in both places, one is a place where their own soldier has to be watched in order to keep them in and one is just wanting to provide protection to their
