“They are the hopes of our future”, as Dr. Jose Rizal said about the Filipino youth. He described the Filipino youth as innovative, bright, and patriotic in his times. But as time passed by, many things have changed and the Filipino youth had also become a subject of it. Our generation is surrounded by many influences, especially by the social media. Moreover, anything can be instant nowadays due to the advanced technology. It also results in faster occurrence of crime happening in our country, just by the click of the thumb in our smartphones. Jose Rizal also wanted the Filipino youth to shine and use their capabilities and talents to stand out. In his poem “To The Filipino Youth”, he expressed that we, the next generation, must glow brightly as the hopes of the future with no plasticity. At these times where many things influences the young Filipinos, alcohol, parties, and even illegal drugs, we the Filipino youth must stay resilient to avoid these things that may also result in addiction. But I’m also aware that some of our co-youth are victims of these vices due to their problems and also because of poverty. Maybe they think they can escape the world by using illegal drugs and drowning themselves on alcoholic beverages. As Filipinos, we must influence our co-youth who have gone into the wrong path to take changes again. As I have said earlier, everything is a subject of change. It is not too late for change. I know that our development will not be easy, but I also know that it will not be impossible. We must show to others that we live in the words that Dr. Jose Rizal said, that we are the hopes of their future.
