The Death of a Salesman and A Raisin in the Sun both portrays the difficulties that two different families faced. The family in the first play was your typical white family while in the second play they were your typical African American family. Although the two plays have many similarities in the characters, there are also many differences between them. The mothers of the two stories were both similar but also different in many ways. Ruth and Linda are portrayed in similar ways when it comes to their families. They believe they should always love and show them support no matter what situation they are faced with. They are also similar in ways such as how they both do chores around their houses. They always do whatever they can to take care of their families. But both women are also portrayed in different ways also. In A Raisin in the Sun Ruth does not take anything from anyone especially her husband Walter. For instance she stands up to him when she asked if he wanted different substances to drink like milk or coffee after coming home from all the drinking that had happened. Walter wanted to talk his mom into giving him the money from his father’s life insurance. His plan was to open up a business with two other men. After his mom used the money to buy a house she gave the rest to her son being sure to leave some for Beneatha and her college.
