There are two very similar characters in two very similar stories, Reverend Hale in The Crucible and Edward R Murrow in Goodnight and Good Luck. Tthey both struggle with the real world and what it come with. Both stories are about a political martyr in very different times and the characters both strongly disagree with the martyr. The political views and sense of responsibility of these men can be described as identical but they also have their differences. Just to name a few there’s time period, characteristics with their current situations and the the people they both face and deal with.. The political views Edward R. Murrow and Reverend Hale have on the trials in their stories Goodnight and Goodluck are much alike. In The Crucible Reverend Hale begins by agreeing with the idea of the witch trials, He is all for it until there is a sudden turning point where he has a change of heart. (Miller Act 3 p. 102) At this point his view on the witch trials is that they are wrong, which is the same view that Murrow has on the rRed sScare. Edward R. Edward Murrow has the large responsibility of being the head news reporter on this news fueled battle. “is my desire, if not my duty, to try to talk to you journeymen with some candor about what is happening to radio and television. And if what I say is responsible, I, alone, am responsible for the saying of it.” This just goes to show how much Murrow realizes his responsibility and how great it is.
