Even though The House of the Scorpion and The Giver are two books that are very different they can still have similarities. Matt Alacrán from The House of the Scorpion and Jonas from The Giver have similarities and differences. While there are more differences than similarities the similarities that these two books do have are very interesting. For example, Jonas grew up in a society where everyone knew what to do and never had to worry. For example, one of the differences are Matt is a clone while Jonas doesn’t know his birth mother. “Lily followed behind, but she glanced back over her shoulder at Jonas and teased, “Maybe he had the same Birth Mother as you.”” in The Giver the mother didn’t give birth to her children. “But that one embryo grew until it was clearly a being with arms and legs and a sweet, dreaming face.” that embryo mentioned in The House of the Scorpion grew up into Matt. In addition, another difference is Jonas had children in his childhood while Matt lived with Celia, his caretaker. And said in The Giver “Even the children were scolded if they used the term lightly at play, jeering at a teammate who missed a catch or stumbled in a race.” this is an example of how Jonas had other children in his childhood. “You must stay hidden in the nest like a good little mouse.” this quote from The House of the Scorpion proves that Matt was not allowed to interact with other children his age. Theses are two very different books. Matt Alacrán from The House of the Scorpion and Jonas from The Giver have similarities and differences.
