One would say we have to understand our environment to understand we are a product of it. Some would say this is the life you been given, or god created this world and he made it the way it is supposed to be. Blacks would say "living under the threat of death" is not a way to live. Many feel that after the passing of the 13th amendment meant freedom was accomplished. For once blacks were finally granted a since of normalcy. The 13th amendment was declared that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, nor any place subjected to their jurisdiction" So did the freedom bell really ring or what the 13 amendment another political …show more content…

After the civil war the south was left in economic shambles, which we all know created a daimio effect messing up the white social structure. The 13 amendment was there to correct the issue. The same amendment that set the salves free, would also be the same amendment to enslave them again. This time the whites called it "Criminalization". With a new name came new laws. Slavery now is consider punishment and gave authority to rent the prisoners. Many men now were the target for petty crimes. Not just going to jail for not having employment, but leaving their wives, a person of color practicing a trade or business for their own benefits. With the state having incentives to arrest as many as possible and realizing the profit was going to spike sky high, blacks again were shackled and living in fear. What made it worst is the convicted would die due to being push so hard- hard then when they were an actual slave. Prisoner died and again, no one would be healed accountable.
