Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” What this means to me is that everyone has the potential to do anything they want; however, if they do not have the confidence and the drive to go for their dreams, they will not accomplish anything. As a second-semester sophomore in high school, it may seem that I have plenty of time to decide what I want to do with my life, but that is not exactly the case. With the SAT test coming up in about a year and college applications beginning not long after that, now is the perfect time to start planning for my future. In that, I hope to follow the health sciences career pathway to begin specializing towards a career in anesthesiology. Basically, what anesthesiologists do is administer pain-relief medications and anesthesia to a patient undergoing a surgical procedure; they also monitor a patient’s vital functions throughout surgery. The academic requirements to become an anesthesiologist are a bachelor’s degree, four years of medical school, and around four years of residency. I will also have to pass the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination, as well as certification exams from the American Board of Anesthesiology. In college, my plan is to get my bachelor of science by majoring in human biology and minoring in chemistry or psychology. Then I would like to go into a pre-med program, and after that, hopefully, I will be accepted into medical school to complete my schooling. I want to be an anesthesiologist because I have always wanted a career in the medical field. The human body is fascinating to me, and I enjoy being able to service people, as well. I am also good with numbers and paying attention to details, which are both incredibly important assets to an anesthesiologist, as the smallest error in calculation can lead to disastrous
