In America, citizens take pride in being American. But, what does it mean to be American? If you were to look at from an educational standpoint, it would mean high dropout rates, black/ white test score gaps, and differences in resources between schools. The scenario given is that there are two beginners taking a piano class for then weeks. One of the students’, student A, lives in a high-income family and has parents who own a piano at home and the other student, student B, lives in a lower income family and they do not have a piano at home. After the ten-week class is over, student A is far better at playing the piano than student B. This happens because student A was given the opportunity to use the piano at home, due to the fact that the parents had enough wealth to buy a piano to have at home. This is a problem in society not easily fixed. A minimum wage job right out of high school is not a career.
