Through generations, some aspects evolve, and some remain the same. This is also shown in schooling between generations. While life outside of school would have an extensive number of topics, I am focused on the school itself and how it has changed or stayed the same. I will talk about how the classes offered and frequently attended, how the teachers taught students, and the social life within the school have changed over 30 years from when my mother, Denise Friedel, and I attended school. Although she went to a different school than I am currently attending, I believe that the differences would be about the same. Going through Blackfoot High School, I see many changes that have been made from when my mother described her years in high school. Classes are one of those changes. While most of the required classes, Math, English, Science, and Physical Education, are the same, some aren’t. The majority of electives in my high school that is have taken have been shop classes, foreign language, and computer based classes. When my mother was in high school, those classes were different. She was required to take home economics and foreign language classes to graduate. Computer classes were the biggest difference between the two generations. Several stand in front of the class and give slightly interesting lectures. Some teachers focus on other types of learning processes, such as writing or visual. In my classes, these may include doing things on electronic devices or on a white board for the class. Most tests are even taken on a classroom set of iPads. This, however, was immensely different than my mother’s experience in high school. She exclaimed that there wasn’t as much dependency on electronics in the classroom. Tests were hand written instead of on a computer or iPad, and items that were written were on a chalk
