For this week, I was focusing on speaking to as many people as possible and educating them about breastfeeding. I wanted to ensure that more people are breastfeeding. If they give formula, I must persuade them into breastfeeding.My objective is to interact more with mothers in the waiting area, and learning how to take a proper approach into persuading her to breastfeed. However, if I am in the waiting area most of the day, this leaves me no time for documentation. The tip I discovered this week was to document and be in the waiting area at the same time. I check to see if there are any infants or pregnant women in the lobby, then if I do see someone, I go and speak to them. If there is no one in the waiting area, I continue to document. This technique is working most of the time when I am not called in to do anything. Overall, I have made a big progress so far. I am definitely more confident in speaking about breastfeeding. If the person is not a participant, then I must know if they are qualified. This week, there was a case, where the mother declared that her child is part of the program, thus she is qualified. However, as it turned out, she does not have Medicaid, and her insurance is not accepted by the program. The only option left is knowing what is the family income. If her husband makes less than the specified amount, then she is qualified to join the program. This poor lady refused to leave the office because she believed that she is qualified. It was a difficult case because I wanted to help her, but based on the program rules, I could not be any help.
