• One of the biggest compliments given to the Civil Rights Movement is how it was able to transform from simple protests to becoming political power. o With more African Americans becoming elected, all future legislation is now more equalized in thought out compared to before.
• The only other issue that had arisen after this was racial gerrymandering; due to Thornbug v. Gingles o The Supreme Court had to speak and state that re-drawing district lines to isolate a minority group is unconstitutional. o The only way around this issue is if it was not intentional, and it was very hard to hide this intention. o This is why they came up with the doctrine that a state must have the least amount of minority isolated districts as possible.

• Native Americans: o This was the earliest group to be dehumanized and segregated by the White man even before the United States of America was officially founded. o When we first arrived, we made many promises to the Indians that promoted Western Expansion. o Yet, we never fulfilled these until the 1900’s:
1924 is when the remaining Indians earned their suffrage and rights as full citizens.
Two years later, laws were passed that gave a lot of land back to tribes that was taken away centuries ago (Indian Reserves and such today). o In fact, in 1968, our government allowed Indian tribes to apply our Constitution and aspects of Bill of Rights to their native governments. o As long as they don’t pose major threats to overthrow, their self-governing tactics are constitutional as an apology for wiping out their entire race centuries ago.
