Men have the power Knowledge is power. Knowledge allows you to get an opportunity for advancement in very good jobs. Knowledge sets you in a higher social class. Knowledge enables you to be in control of other people. According its definition, power is the ability or capacity to do something or act in a particular way. Knowledge is the only path to get to the place where you can have control over other people. We can clearly see this when Lenina is talking about the prodigy Bernard and says; “As an Alpha-Plus psychologist, Bernard was one of the few men she knew entitled to a permit”(59). In this quote the author is showing that the permit to go to the reservation was authorized only to alpha plus members. To have that type of permit you would need to have influences over other people, and only alpha plus that are all men, have this power. The author also show that men have the capability to authorize people to come into the Brave New World. We can see this when Mustapha is authorizing Bernard to take John back to the Brave New World, “The necessary orders,” said Mustapha Mond, “are being sent to the Warden of the Reservation at this moment. You will proceed at once to the Warden’s Office. Good-morning, Mr. Marx”(96). The author presents this to us by showing the reaction John had as soon as he entered to the alpha plus classroom. “Five minutes in that Alpha Double Plus classroom left John a trifle bewildered” (Huxley). We can see that the alpha plus boys take a higher level education that provides them greater knowledge, since knowledge is power, they are educated to be the most powerful people in society. Each social class has a built in mindset that makes them think their social condition is more suitable than others. According to Huxley, every person needs to be happy with what they do. In chapter 16, Mustapha Mond said “The world’s stable now. People are happy; they get what they want, and they never want what they can’t get” (151). Girls education level is significantly lower than boys to keep them from obtaining knowledge that would otherwise make them feel able to obtain the same power as men. The fulfillment of betas members with their role in society can be seen when one of them said, “Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they’re so frightfully clever. I’m really awfully glad I’m a Beta, because I don’t work so hard” (21). Even though Beta-Minus is a lower status than Alpha, they are convinced it is better to be a beta. This belief is possible do to the limited knowledge they
