“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed” said Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. The quote means that you can never wait for the dictator to give you freedom. You should demand it from the dictator. Think about everything that has happened , which one do you believe it should be? In most people's opinion , it should be demanded because of how long they waited , they deserve it after all they put people through , and due to the fact that they “promised” them their freedom that they did not get to have it. America's freedom was promised but the African Americans had felt withering injustice. They felt withering injustice due to the fact that the Emancipation Proclamation was signed but the promise of “freedom” was never fulfilled. King said in the I Have a Dream speech that “But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free”. They then begin to grow impatient. Soon their impatient turned into nonviolent protesting. It also resulted in marches and speeches which is how the I Have a Dream speech came along. “Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination “ said King.
