Dental hygienists are has a major role in our community. They hold many responsibilities in their hands. They have a variety of responsibilities some that consist of having to examine our teeth, looking for any type of oral diseases, and taking x-rays. Hygienists will be dealing with many patients, mostly young children, which requires them to have communication skills. They have to be well educated and trained to perform very difficult procedures. In becoming a dental hygienist comes a bright future in the next couple of years because the job market is expected to increase over the next 10 years. However, in order to become one, one has to go through schooling which is a minimum of an associate’s degree and 1 to 2 years of dental school to get the proper training. “Dental hygienists typically need an associate’s degree in dental hygiene” (Bureau of Labor Statistics). After you have completed your associate’s degree, which is two years, you have to have to attend to some type of dental school. “Programs typically take 3 years to complete, and offer laboratory, clinical, and classroom instruction” (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Some dental schools require two years of training. It all depends on what school you attend. But dental school really helps out to have hands on experience. So they won’t be nervous in the upcoming future with patients. Hygienists have to get familiar with, “Critical thinking, compassion, detail oriented, and dexterity” (Bureau of Labor Statistics). These are very important steps and skills that hygienists have to learn. Because sometimes they do have some very difficult situations. They have to be ready for anything that comes their
