Schools provide students with work that can be tedious, which already takes up a large part of their time after school hours. Imagine if the school board decided to extend school hours, it would only make it difficult for students to so do. School hours should not be extended because it limits a student’s personal time, puts more stress on them, and reduces time for extracurricular activities. It limits their time for personal work, such as chores, family time, and time spent with friends. If the workload increases because of the extended time, it will create more stress and anxiety that they will have to deal with. Extracurricular activities are a way for students to do something that they enjoy doing and to make friends that align with the same interests as them. If school becomes too stressful, they have no choice but to take a break or quit. This is not fair to them because they are forced to stop what they are passionate about to continue work that does not interest them. If the thought of unfinished work is on the back of a student’s mind, then the they wouldn’t be able to fully focus on the activity, which will cause them not to perform to the best of their ability. For example, if a student was on a basketball team that was going to compete in a game, they should be fully focused on the competition. The thought of finishing school work will distract them, which will cause they not to be focused on the match. School hours prevent students from being able to express themselves in a way they enjoy. Thus, it is important to factor in that students should be able to do any extracurricular activities that interests them without any added
